The Israelites were a group of people. Some of the jobs the Israelites had were shepherds and merchants. The Israelites believed in only one god because of a guy named Abraham. The Israelites used to live in Egypt but the king of Egypt got very jealous because they were wealthier and more powerful then he was. So he made them leave. After they left Egypt they settled in a place called Canaan. They got into many wars in Canaan but they won every single war. Also when they were in danger in Egypt a man named Moses helped them escape. The Israelites had a king who ruled them. His name was King David. King David’s son became king when he died. Also the Israelites traded many goods like vegetables. Once when the Israelites went on a voyage the brought back many tons of gold. Along time ago around 1800 B.C. the Israelites used to starve because of something called a famine.
King David ruled the Israelites around 1010 - 970 BCE. King David had a conversation with God. He begged God to build a place of worship for God. God turned him down and forbid him to build a holy temple. The reason was because David was always fighting in many battles. King David killed a lot of people so God thought he was unclean. But because David's ideas were good God made a promise to David that his son would build the place of worship for Him. When David died, his wise son, Solomon, took over the responsibilities of ruling an empire and the making of a holy temple for God. Because Solomon constructed a holy temple he promised to worship God and obey his ten commandments.
