Nebuchadnezzar

(635 BC-561 BC)

by Graham B. and Matt W.

Nebuchadnezzar II was said to be the best king of Babylon. He was the oldest son of Nabopolassar.  Nabopolassar named him after the famous king Nebuchadnezzar I, the second dynasty of Irin. Nabopolassar eventually died in 605.

Nebuchadnezzar was in war when he got the news his father. He had just defeated Egypt.  With his fathers death Nebuchadnezzar returned to Babylon to claim him self a king.

Nebuchadnezzar was a man of war.  In building inscriptions he talks about many wars, most of them ended in prayers.  He went to Syria and Palestine often to fight; at first to drive off Egyptians.  In 604 he took the Palestine city of Ashkelon.  In 601 he tried to push forward into Egypt but failed (a lot like the big battle he had with TyreL.)  He battled Jerusalem twice; the second time Jerusalem became a Babylonian province.

Nebuchadnezzar built buildings for his country.  His building skills were better then most of the other kings. For instance, he built a big wall around Babylon. He had a son that was named Amel-Marduk.  When Nebuchadnezzar died, his son took over king of Babylon.

Nebuchadnezzar was a great king.  If you want to find out more, visit the sites on the next page.
