Fairy Tales


Today you are going to learn about fairy tales. Answer the following questions on your worksheet. Please read carefully.


1. What is a fairy tale? 

   Click here to go to an online dictionary to find the definition. You will type the words "fairy tale" at the top of the page and then click "Look It Up." Be sure to write both definitions.

2. List 5 different fairy tales you have read or heard of.

3. What are the 7 elements of a fairy tale?

4. What are some different "special beginning words" that you might find in a fairy tale?

   Click on the fairy tales below and write down the words that are used in the very first sentence.

   Beauty and The Beast                Cinderella                The Frog King              

5. Now we are going to use the fairy tale "Cinderella" to see if it contains the seven elements that you usually find in a fairy tale.

Click on the story below, read the story and answer the following questions:

a. What are the special beginning words used in this fairy tale?

b. Who is the good character(s)?

c. Who is the bad character(s)?

d. Is there royalty and/or a castle present?

e. Does magic happen? If yes, please describe what kind of magic happens?        

f. What is the problem in this fairy tale?

g. What is the solution?

h. Does anything in this fairy tale relate to the number three or seven? If yes, what is it?

i. What special words are used at the end of the story which tell you this is a fairy tale?
